Join us for Kensington Street’s latest celebration of art, food, and culture for the month of March.
As Kensington Street continues to surprise with new offerings, we bring you Art Month’s ‘Art at Night’ on Wednesday 16 March 6PM to 9PM.
In association with Art Month, the Chippendale Creative Precinct and Greencliff will throw open its doors for a night of pop up exhibitions aimed at showcasing the most exciting local emerging and established artists and designers.
Discover Sydney’s creative hub whilst we transform Kensington Street’s Federation terraces, The Old Clare Hotel and The Old Rum Store into stimulating galleries and exhibition spaces against a backdrop of our most exciting array of bars, cafes and eateries that have recently graced our domain. Spice up your life with art, food and wine, and enjoy the medley of entertainment on offer whilst you feast on the delights of Spice Alley.
The spirit of Art Month on Kensington Street continues at Kensington Street Social who are offering a complimentary welcome drink to anyone who wishes to dine with them as part of Art at Night, whilst Cafe Glider will be celebrating the autumnal season with an authentic Thai inspired dish. Bar Chinois, swings open its doors with a fusion of Asian-French cuisine with cocktails to match. And, Lower Mekong promises mouth watering Vietnamese dishes to get you through the long night.
Kensington Contemporary will host ‘Up Late With The Strutt Sisters’ featuring artist talks exploring their enchanting new exhibition, ‘Let The Chips Fall Where They May’. Twin sisters, musicians, synaesthetes, artists and designers, The Strutt Sisters – Catherine & Jennifer Strutt – will showcase their new bespoke interior and architectural venture accompanied by their influential visual works.
Experience unique and experimental objects of design and craft from ‘The Fortynine’. New ideas, materials and processes will excite and enrich, as visually and texturally engaging work fills number 40 Kensington Street.
The light-filled sandstone cottages of number 46 and 48 Kensington Street will house a continuation of Lyn & Tony’s sensory exploration of the Australian environment, ‘Scented Intoxication, Reimagined’. The scent and texture of the unique Australian bush is presented through an exploration of beautiful materials that enliven and animate spaces and audiences.
Engage in the conversational and interactive pop-up event ‘Just Drinks’. Encouraging connection and participation, Project OKYO’s communal event will be celebrating the social and engaging elements of art in number 36 Kensington Street.
Grab a drink and explore the graceful impact of Tracy Luff’s mesmerising sculptural works through the atrium-like lobby of The Old Clare Hotel, before discovering the best of the 2015 Head On Photo Festival, on display in The Old Rum Store’s cavernous exhibition space. A rare opportunity and retrospective to view the most exciting portrait, landscape and mobile photographs of the 2015 Head On Awards.
As you meander between exhibition spaces, take in the animated and free flowing work of artist collective, Studio A, while enjoying charming musical performances that will bring the night to life. From 6PM CuzN will be performing his infectious acoustic sermons on love and life. And Sydney based musician David Sharpe will be delving into his repertoire of soul classics, 1950s hits, and iconic pop tributes.
Throughout Chippendale and Redfern’s creative precincts additional galleries, artist run spaces, and creative spaces will be activated and pulsating throughout the night. Explore Sydney’s most dynamic suburbs in a DIY tour celebrating art, design, and culture.
