Chinese New Year on Kensington Street
We welcome under our wings an abundance of fruitful partnerships with the China Cultural Centre Sydney, the Sichuan Department of Culture, and City of Sydney, to bring you a thoroughly unique and cutting edge Chinese New Year celebration, full of light, radiance and vivacity.
Inspired by the personality and traits of the rooster, our street-wide celebration, entitled The Light of Dawn – Year of the Rooster, will celebrate renewal, regeneration and prosperity, in much abundance.
Join us from 3-8pm on Saturday 4 February, when the creative contents of each of Kensington Street’s terraces will be spilling out into an undulating sea of vibrant delights, all paying homage to the wonderfully rich Chinese culture that resides in Sydney.
We will welcome a plethora of visual and performance artists to enliven the street with a Chinese twist, inspired by traditional fables associated with the rooster. As dancers gracefully leap down our cobbled street, they will bound between immersive creative workshops and captivating demonstrations from cutting edge creatives and experts at the epicentre of the Chinese community.
Bookended between two stages, featuring continuous live music deriving from China old and new, there will be something for everyone to rock to.
Soar with us as we give you a glimpse from a bird’s-eye view of our upcoming festival’s delights…
