Chippendale Creative Precinct

Chippendale is a rapidly developing hub, bursting with ideas, energy and potential, and sustained by the pulse of the community - the creative, the corporate, every man and his dog - to harness the new world of innovation, inspiration and action.

Sitting on the fringe of the CBD, The rich historical and creative context is ever-present. Close proximity to tertiary institutions and the emerging cluster of creative industries generate an arts-based, local economic growth and collaboration within the industrial buildings and original terraces in a fusion of old-meets-new.

In proud spirit of the life and times of Chippendale, the 2015 theme for Chippendale New World Art Prize  (CNWAP) is PHENOMENA. This month, submissions are rolling in for the invaluable opportunity to partake in a $10,000 arts residency program to Kefalonia, Greece.

The CCP is excited to bring Chippendale into the new era; reclaimed from the industrial grinder, Chippendale is now home to an abundance of creative pursuits of business and artistic innovators. Around the world, dynamic and transformative cities are blossoming with diverse creative and cultural output.
Here are our 4 top picks!

Shoreditch, London
The bustling and bizarre town is a plethora of cheap eats, hedonistic hang-outs, and quirky independent stores. Well established as a morphing creative and cultural hub, Shoreditch shows no signs of slowing down!

Maebong Quarter, Johannesburg
Johannesburg has a ‘reputation problem’. In 2015, the city on its way to move forward from its troubling past, channelling the potential of new creative hubs like the ‘arty Maebong Quarter’ and a ream of modern museums, galleries and studios to open in 2015.

Chelsea, New York
With not so much a ‘problem’, as ‘overshadowing’ read ‘insurmountable’ reputation, Chelsea did the one thing to rise above its fame forged in the 1990’s, which was literally build an elevated park, The Highline. The area is a mix of its warehouse chic ‘Meat-Packing’ origins and new structures, high profile galleries, fabulous eateries and flea markets.

Chippendale, Sydney
Like Chelsea,  Downtown Chippendale has its roots in industry, something the little alleys, warehouses and converted factories capture with designer-chic DIY charm. In sharp comparison, The Living Mall’s green abundance and sustainable design is a stunning reflection of Chippendale today. A thriving creative, cultural and student community meets in Chippendale and greets the world as an upcoming international destination in 2015.
