Get ready for a night of festivity as BEAMS prepares to light up the night!
As the night descends over Sydney, BEAMS will send brilliant rays of light dancing along Chippendale’s alleyways. With so many dazzling creations set to hit the streets, we thought we’d share with you some light works to keep an eye out for.
Andrew May - Salt
Andrew May's impressive work 'salt' stands two metres tall and sets out to reflect singular humanity by how much salt the human body can contain. The illuminated piece is made up of a series of glass bottles, each containing a small portion of salt granules.
Dominique Hage and Hepa Taahi - Veins
Dominique and Hepa's system of temporally glowing tubes will illuminate the Chippendale laneway in pulsing light. The veins express the spirit as an energy breathing light into the nooks and crannies of the area, and the haunting of the site from the energy of the past.
David Brophy - installation
Chippendale’s streets will be showered by the warm light of David Brophy’s tent installation. As a metaphor for a precarious abode, this beacon of light will challenge your senses as it floats above festival crowds.
Still from 'On the Other Hand'
Sydney is bursting with emerging film talent and BEAMS will be showcasing some of the most exciting cinematic innovations. Chippendale’s alleyways will be sprinkled with dazzling films that will capture audiences young and old.
The festival will be a place of discovery as these films take you on adventurous journeys to undiscovered lands. Partnering with AFTRS, the festival will sparkle in the heart of Sydney’s creative district.
Workshops at BEAMS 2016
BEAMS will be holding some dazzling workshops that will get your creative juices flowing as you bring to life your very own creations!
Nauti Studios and Work-Shop will be returning with their neon drawing workshop. This is no standard drawing class, but a luminous spectacle that will spark imagination and inspire you to seek new possibilities.
Visitors young and old can try their hand at origami as Jayanto will help guide you towards creating a stunning origami lantern. These beautiful structures will capture the luminous spirit of BEAMS and showcase the collective creativity festival-goers.
