At the end of May, the Chippendale Creative Precinct crosses a threshold into the new world.
The town is painted red by emerging creatives in the Chippendale New World Art Prize, woken by the lights of VIVID Festival, fed by a banquet fit for royalty and explored by curious pedestrians - the attendees of our perennial Gallery Walking Tour and a new initiative, the Historical Walking Tour. On the horizon hovers a luminous silhouette known as BEAMS Arts Festival.
Get into the spirit, Chippendale! Good things are coming.

The gates to the new world are spilling with art and champagne!
We warmly invite you to the opening night of the Chippendale New World Art Prize in partnership with Vivid Ideas. From 6-8PM next Thursday (2 June), the works of 41 finalists will be exhibiting in The Old Rum Store 1 & 2 & Kensington Contemporary Galleries.
Each artist has moulded the concept of SPIRIT in their own hand, whether by sculpture, painting, installation or motion. On this evening, our judging panel will announce the prizewinner of the $10,000 residency at Arte Studio Ginestrelle in Assisi, Italy. For three months, our winning artist will be able to develop their practice within rustic farmhouses and hilltop basilicas of the Italian countryside.
The winner will be selected by; Wayne Tunnicliffe, head curator of Australian art at the Art Gallery of NSW; Dr Stanley Quek, current Executive Chairman of Greencliff Pty Ltd and the prize’s benefactor; Pat Corrigan, renowned Australian art collector and arts philanthropist; and Janet Laurence, internationally celebrated Australian artist.
Have your say and vote for your favourite artwork to go into the draw to win a dinner for 2 at Mekong, the latest culinary adventure to hit Kensington Street.
HOW TO VOTE
1. Take a photo of your favourite artwork
2. Post it on Instagram / Facebook
Votes will be tallied during the exhibition and the prize will be announced on 26th June 2016.
The winning artist of the People's Choice will receive Dinner for 2 at Bistrot Gavroche.

With a menu designed by internationally acclaimed chef Tiw Rakarin, travel from the Burmese mountains and past Cambodian fields to sail down a river adrift in the fragrances of authentic Southeast Asian cuisine.
In the company of art world heavyweights, our diners are privy to discussion on art philanthropy and the sustenance of creative practice. With seasoned industry advice and the intimate air of salon society, join us for one starry evening.
Exquisite Teusner wine pairings carefully selected by Director of Cutting Wine, Justin Walter will whet your palette and keep you cheeks rosey all night long.
At $75 a head only for a full banquet, complimentary wines and live discussion from our judges, it’s quite the moveable feast.

What the Chippendale New World Art Prize (CNWAP) ultimately aims to foster is the unbridled spirit of creating. We thank all who submitted a work to this year’s prize and we celebrate with our online exhibition - art spins on and on in a world where others fearlessly share their handiwork.

Like Chippendale’s revival, Art Now Revisited encompasses the spirit of what once was. From the ashes of the Art Now series at Nicky Ginsberg’s former NG Art Gallery, rises a Kensington Contemporary curation of the finest works in the Chippendale New World Art Prize to be held in Kensington Contemporary 1 & 2. Through the looking glass, we regard vestiges of an old world from the battlements of the new.
Join us at the opening night on Thursday 30 June, 6-8PM!
Fiona White speaks at May Walking Tour
To herald our entry into the new world, the Chippendale Creative Precinct is hosting a special edition gallery walking tour. From 2-4PM Saturday 4 June, tour attendees will be accompanied by cultural commentators, exhibiting CNWAP artists and fellow art enthusiasts visiting multiple locations including an exclusive tour of White Rabbit Gallery to view its blockbuster summer exhibition Heavy Artillery.
This special edition tour cures its taste to the Singaporean spices of Alex Lee Kitchen. Find your seat in the house of laksa, rendang and fresh roti, which opens its doors to welcome the first few days of winter.
Lunch will be served between 1 & 2 pm, and with complimentary wines to boot, this feast will only empty your pockets of $25.

In the land of man and machine, Central Park launches X Factory for VIVID Festival.
The heritage-listed Brewery Yard building blinks to technicolour life, showcasing what the factory once was and what it can be. New visions of human achievement are projected onto a mammoth piece of disused property. Until the festival’s end, a silent disco will also be held on Friday and Saturday nights.
Dance with us, Chippendale! The ruins are rebuilding themselves.

Last year, a 22,000 strong audience witnessed 350 creative practitioners launch a coup d’etat over nine laneways and the Chippendale Green. From the madness rose street-long feast tables, a central music stage, live performances, balloons exploding from an industrial facade and a spontaneous party on O’Connor Street. One for the books.
This labyrinthine exhibition of Sydney creatives birthed an even greater vision for BEAMS Arts Festival 2016. We want musicians, architects, artists, performers, creative businesses - students, don’t be shy!
If you have an idea, we’re all ears.

As one September night on Sydney’s events calendar, this is the collaborative spirit of Chippendale inscribed in light.

BEAMS would not come to fruition without the generosity of our partners and sponsors. In this troublesome age for arts funding, such a communal festival like BEAMS rests on the sponsorship of visionary businesses.

A heartfelt thanks to these early bird sponsors of BEAMS 2016!
How well-acquainted are you with Chippendale?
It’s steeped in a rich and gritty history – founded by a local murderer, dominated by a beer distillery, haunted by the likes of Pig Mary. The mortuary station sent trains to the cemetery; the sugar refinery burnt bones to charcoal; the sordid walls of Linden Lane nurtured a secret porcelain collection.
From July, the second Saturday of each month will host an Explore Chippendale Historical Walking Tour. Led by local historians, our tour attendees will have the opportunity to listen closely to tales of Chippendale past. Our streets have stories to tell.
Early birds welcome for this introductory once in a lifetime tour taking place on Saturday 9 July. Bookings essential
