THE SEEING AND BEING SEEN

EVOLVING FACE OF CHIPPENDALE - KENSINGTON ST

February is already racing ahead into March - this jam packed month has run the gamut with so many highlights for us to share.

CCP shares a united vision for Chippendale with our most esteemed collaborator, supporter and board member, Dr Stanley Quek.

Of the many incredible additions to the changing face of Chippendale, Kensington Street is its newest with Dr Stanley Quek at the helm.

A street full of new developments and almost operational (watch this space) - Kensington Street, just a minute away from the Central Park Living Mall, is a rising star destination for creative experiences, discerning shoppers and those seeking their next culinary discovery.

Recently, The Daily Telegraph featured Kensington Street as one of the 'Top 15 hottest places to be seen Sydney this year'. The article praises the "…urban renaissance happening in Chippendale. This inner-west quarter is swapping industrial for imagination…" and highlighting the rising star of Kensington Street as a new restaurant and shopping precinct - Read more

CHIPPENDALE NEW WORLD ART PRIZE & BEAMS ARTS FESTIVAL 2015

SUBMISSIONS OPEN 2 MARCH 2015

On Monday 2 March submissions for the Chippendale New World Art Prize and BEAMS Arts Festival will open for 2015.

The depth and breadth OF past entries has always been exceptional. We look forward to another year of proposals and artworks, which raise the bar of innovative creative exploration.

This year’s collective creative brief, Phenomenacalls for creative practitioners to investigate and pursue their interpretation or realisation of what a phenomena encompasses.

Engaging with the collective briefof Phenomena, artists can elect to submit work to one or both of these exciting opportunities.

This year, submissions for the CNWAP and BEAMS Arts Festival will open Monday 2 March with the CNWAP submissions closing on Monday 16 March & BEAMS Arts Festival closing Monday 29 June.

Confirmed judges for the 2015 CNWAP are legendary Director of the MCA, Elizabeth Ann MacGregor OBE, renowned art critic, lecturer and broadcaster Andrew Frost, and chairman of Frasers Property Australia, Dr. Stanley Quek, whose own philanthropic gesture has made the prize possible.

ENGAGING WITH THE COMMUNITY

CONNECTING BEAMS ARTSTS WITH CIPPENDALE'S RESIDENTS

One of the many exceptional elements of the BEAMS Arts Festival is the balance and communion between the residents of Chippendale and the artists involved.

This relationship, between visiting creative practitioners, local residents and businesses, grows within the liminal space of conversation and will likely extend into collaboration and lasting connections.

AT the CCP, WE would like to encourage creative practitioners who are submitting work to BEAMS Arts Festival for 2015 to think about the kind of spaces in the laneways of Chippendale to which they connect; those environs which they believe will benefit and enrich their proposed work.

For creative practitioners interested in taking this step, it is important to take the time to explore the laneways of Chippendale and consider where your work would be most suited.

As a part of your application, you may select 3 choices of locations. This of course does not guarantee these places to you, but assists in the later processing of your submission, should it be successful.

Once all submissions have been received and successful applicants have been notified, our assistant curators will instigate the mediation process between creative practitioners and local residents.

FUNDING INITIATIVES

HOW YOU CAN SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE CCP

At the CCP, we are always working to seek out and gain access to funding opportunities to continue the incredible work we are doing here in Chippendale. It is a constant exercise of networking, communication and unified hard work and needless to say, a lot of grant writing.

We are currently seeking funding from the Australia Council and the City of Sydney; having previously received funding from City of Sydney, we are interested in both these organisations becoming and continuing to be instrumental sources of funding for the CCP.

CCP FREE GALLERY WALKING TOURS: CHIPPENDALE

EXPLORING THE NEW & ESTABLSHED GALLERIES OF CHIPPENDALE

On Saturday 7 March, our Chippendale Creative Precinct Gallery Walking Tours will commence. Starting the tour at NG Art Gallery, our first tour will be officiated by CCP President and Gallery Director Nicky Ginsberg alongside Art Facilitator and Guide, Amy Gardner.

The tour attendees will be guided through a selection of the most recent exhibitions open in Chippendale, our guides providing information to the context and history in which these contemporary galleries stand.

Organised in collaboration with a wide range of Chippendale’s galleries, our talented guides will lead guests to a different gallery each month.

The tours will bring people into a more intimate connection with Chippendale as a rich art and culture destination. Leading this project, the CCP are excited for the public to gain access to a thoughtfully curated experience as they are guided around the art spaces and galleries within the district.

Catering the tour to coincide with new, effervescent exhibitions throughout Chippendale will mean that greater dialogue can be created within Chippendale, allowing people to become more aware of the physical layout of this growing artistic hub in inner city Sydney.

A CHANCE TO WIN

The City of Sydney Sustainability Survey is a major biennial initiative to gauge residents’ and business awareness and interest in this area of research. EARTH HOUR 2015

Earth Hour’s focus this year is on local food - so there’s a nice reason for people to dine out in restaurants and cafes on Sat 28 March.

The benefit to local cafes and restaurants is that they’ll get their event listed on the Earth Hour website and have a topical point of difference / extra reason for people to choose an Earth Hour-supportive restaurant that night if they have a special dish or something on offer.
