COUNTDOWN: 3 WEEKS UNTIL BEAMS 2015!

 

There's only 3 weeks to go until Chippendale's favourite one-night block party, the BEAMS Arts Festival on Saturday 19 September, and this year we can expect the streets to come alive with colour, light, and a stellar music line up!

A kaleidoscope of talent showcasing the best of Sydney's creative community in art, sound and light installations, sculpture, animation, performance and music, BEAMS is collaborating to channel Sydney's best musical talent to the streets of Chippendale.

BEAMS will bring an incredible range of sounds to ensure a night of quality musical entertainment, exploring creative talent true to this year's theme: PHENOMENA.

Once again, BEAMS will take place along Balfour street and the surrounding laneways, as well as expanding even further into the Chippendale Green in the Central Park development and upcoming lifestyle haven, Kensington Street.

BEAMS welcomes all to enjoy a FREE one-night creative journey along the streets of Chippendale!

So put on your dancing shoes and come along and celebrate with us on Saturday 19 September between 5PM to 10PM as the BEAMS Arts Festival returns for its fourth year!

A DYNAMIC MUSIC SCENE FOR BEAMS 2015!

 

The BEAMS Arts Festival 2015 excites with an array of talented solo artists and bands, keeping the streets alive with entertainment that is sure to get the crowd moving.



Musicians such as Frieda's Boss - a popular reggae, ska, dub outfit which celebrates the infectious sound of reggae classics as well as showcasing some lively originals - will be sure to ignite great sparks of energy at the festival.

The artist run initiative (ARI) Botch House will provide four 'on-the-hour' performances that embody electronic, otherworldly, and artistic environments through music. Curated by Sherman Tang, these performances are sure to entice audiences with their compilation of ambience, dance, music and entertainment.

Benjamin Bleyerveen - another phenomenal act - will bring his strong rhythmic lyrics with finger plucking chords, and a squeeze of beatboxing grit to BEAMS 2015, engaging audiences and creating a truly wonderful atmosphere.



Sydney artist Daisy Sherwood-Miller will take you back to the synthesized, shoulder-padded Australian society between 1980 and 1995, as her dance moves paired with her sassy vox add to the creative talent, bringing diverse musical acts that are sure to entertain all kinds of music lovers!

With the relaxed sounds of our many other talented acoustic artists hiding within the laneways of Chippendale and the cool stylings of many up and coming bands from a diversity of genres - the BEAMS 2015 Musicians are sure to electrify the night's atmosphere!

TAPNLIKE INNOVATIVE NFC TECHNOLOGY AT BEAMS!

 

Tapnlike is an new interactive outlet that enables audiences to connect with BEAMS artworks. It is the first social and creative way of using 'NFC' in your mobile phone. Simply tapping your phone onto a barcode enables viewers to gain greater insight into the concepts and themes each artist explores. 

Receive information in an instant and read about the artist and the ideas behind each work. Tapnlike allows users to learn about art in a different and unique way as viewers 'tap' or 'snap' the work on display engaging in this digitally forward way of tracking their favourite BEAMS artworks.

As a festival of creative ideas, BEAMS 2015 is collaborating this year with emerging company Tapnlike. Providing viewers with important information about the various BEAMS projects, this addition brings forth the recognition of innovative technology and the important role it plays when audiences engage with the minds of the creatives.

MONTHLY GALLERY WALKING TOURS!

 

Come and explore the streets of Chippendale in our free gallery walking tour on the first weekend of every month for a look into the local art scene! Professional art curator and writer Susannah Smith will continue to lead on what is already our seventh tour on Saturday 5 September at 2 PM! Hear talks from artists and curators, and engage with art and architecture in a relaxed social setting.

OPENING NIGHT AT CARLTON PROJECT SPACE

BEN MORLEY EXHIBITS THE TALE OF TWO SUBURBS

 

Carlton Project Space will host the opening reception for Ben Morley's exhibition The Tale of Two Suburbs This Friday 28 August from 6 to 8PM. Don't miss out!

Ben Morley is a Chippendale-based artist showcasing work developed over the last 6 years during artist studio residencies at FraserStudios, the Brand X Studio, Level 3 Central Park and the Camperdown Clubhouse.

The Tale of Two Suburbs tracks the development of Chippendale, from the demolition of the Old Kent Brewery in 2009, to present day building renovations, viewed from laneways and backstreets across the area in semi-abstract oil and acrylic paintings.

Come along for a lovely evening of local art and a glass of wine (or two)!

 

 

KENSINGTON STREET SPRING DELIGHTS FAMILY FUN DAY

Put a spring in your step at the Kensington Street Spring Delights Family Fun Day, celebrating the coming of spring and giving a sneak preview of the freshly revamped Kensington Street in Chippendale!

Expect tantalising stalls, delectable food vendors, wonderfully melodic live music, gorgeous artworks, along with free sweets and treats for all to enjoy with the whole family! And with a variety of creative spring workshops by 2015 Wynne finalist Nicole Kelly and Chippendale New World Art Prize Artist India Mark, an origami workshop by Sydney Origami Inc, a graffiti workshop by internationally acclaimed graffiti artist Scott Marsh, floral crowns by Kensington Street florist Clementine Posey, a hip hop funk workshop by DanceKool and more, this is a weekend you definitely won't want to miss!

Located on the fringe of Central Park, Kensington Street is Sydney's brand new laneway destination, a hidden gem within Sydney's vibrant and eclectic Chippendale precinct.
